Halloween Weekends: Harvest of Horror, Fall Festivals and More

Looking for Halloween and autumn events this weekend? Check out this roundup of things to do across Massachusetts this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

 

This is Halloween! 'Tis the season when happy haunts begin to materialize and grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize. Of course there's plenty to do in Salem, the Halloween Capital of the World, but there's plenty of local events happening, too.

Here's a roundup of local Halloween and autumnal events taking place around Swampscott this Friday, Oct. 19, Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21.

SALEM

Lady Gaga's Little Monsters: Born This Way: The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem is heading downtown to Halloween Central again this year and this time they're bringing Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters with them. Come learn the choreography to "Born This Way" in a one-hour class, taught by the university's Salem Dance Ensemble. Then you'll get all “gaga’d up” and take to the Salem Common in a performance/flash mob. This event draws participants from age 6 to 60 and is always a hit with the revelers on the Salem Common. Saturday, Oct. 20, 11 a.m. $12.

CANDIA, NH

Harvest of Horror: Charmingfare Farm's Harvest of Horror offers four heart pounding scares that will chill you to the bone. Travel down twisting roads in a sinister darnkened woods on the Wagon of Fear, dare to enter the Barn of The Dead where a ghostly figure beckons, learn the horror of the harvesting in the Infested Corn field, and join the remaining survivors for a Ride into The Bog where decay surrounds your only escape. Friday, Oct. 19, Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21. 6, 7, 8 or 9 p.m. $22 purchased online, $25 at the box office.

MARBLEHEAD

OctoberFest: A food and wine tasting event, optional Halloween costumes and live and silent auction items. Live music all evening by The Merj. Friday, Oct. 19, 7-11 p.m. $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

ANDOVER

Dance Prism Presents 'Hansel & Gretel' and 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice:' As a pre-Halloween treat for children and enchantment-ready adults, Dance Prism will present a new setting of the Grimm Brothers' favorite Hansel & Gretel at the Collins Center in Andover. Two short bonus pieces, an uproarious version of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and the ghostly Danse Macabre, will accompany Hansel & Gretel. Children may meet the principal characters at a complementary Gingerbread Party hosted by the infamous Gingerbread Witch following each performance. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2:30 p.m. $18 for children and seniors, $24 for adults.

NORTH ANDOVER

Fall Festival at KinderCare Learning Center: KinderCare Leaning Center is having a Fall Festival. During this event they will be having a Halloween Party (costumes are encouraged). There will also be fall activities. Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Free.

BURLINGTON

Stage Make-Up Workshop: How to Become a Zombie: Learn how to create truly amazing make-up art to accompany your upcoming Halloween costume, drama events, or theme party. A trained instructors will introduce you to the materials and best methods for transforming yourself and your friends into creature of the night. Supplies will be provided, and you’ll get the chance to test your skills while our instructor gives you tips on going from terrific to terrifying. Pre-registration required. Friday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m. $20. For ages 10 and up.

WOBURN

Haunted Halloween Happening: Be a part of the fun at the Woburn Public Library’s Haunted Halloween  Happening, an adult event for ages 21 and over. Food, cash bar, dancing, fortune teller, Halloween games, drawings. Costumes optional. Saturday, Oct. 20, 7-11 p.m. Reservations are $25 each.

BEACON HILL

Harvest Fest at the Phillips Street Play Area: Join the Friends of the Phillips Street Play area for the fourth annual Harvest Festival. Enjoy music, crafts, games and face painting. Free Starbucks coffee and cider. There will be a bake sale and hot dogs for sale to support park programs. Prizes for children in costume. Saturday, Oct. 20, 12-2 p.m. Free.

BROOKLINE

The Betsi Feathers Halloween Special: Halloween and variety at its spookiest sexiness. Join in for Tricks & Treats from The Betsi Feathers, North Shore's finest flock of creepy ladies, as well as guest creepstars and wicked magic acts. Hosted by the undead Amy Winehouse and Jack Sparrow. Saturday, Oct. 20, midnight. $15.

EASTON

Halloween Romp at Children's Museum: Join The Children’s Museum in Easton for a frightfully fun time. Have fun at a spooky bash with creepy crafts, trick-or-treat bag decorating, games, and creepy animals from New England Reptile and Raptor. There will also be trick-or-treating led by volunteers through themed areas outside in The Wild Place. Saturday, Oct 20, 2-4 p.m. or 4-6 p.m. $7 for museum members, $10 for non-members. Tickets need to be purchased in advance. 

ATTLEBORO

Halloween Spooktacular at Mass Audubon's Attleboro Springs Wildlife Sanctuary: Attleboro Springs Wildlife Sanctuary at La Salette comes alive at night with this fun, non-scary, Halloween event. Visitors will be guided through pumpkin lit trails and greeted by forest inhabitants who share the history of the sanctuary along with natural history facts through fun skits, and stories. There will be crafts, games and more. Campfire and marshmallows for toasting complimentary with your admission. Visit our bake sale for yummy goodies and hot cider. Registration is required. Saturday, Oct. 20, 6 p.m. $5, children under 3 are free.
