Yom Hazikaron Lecture

Dear Friend,

The North Shore Jewish community marks Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, with a lecture by world-renowned Torah Scholar, Dr. Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg, on May 9th, from 7:00-9:00pm at the Chabad Community Shul at 44 Burrill St. Chabad of the North Shore is honored to host this event, in conjunction with the North Shore Israel Fund. The evening will begin with a short memorial service for IDF soldiers who gave their lives for Israel.

“I am thrilled to be hosting Dr. Zornberg, as she is one the most inspiring Torah teachers I have ever met,” says Mrs. Layah Lipsker, of Chabad of the North Shore. “Avivah is one of today’s most original and compelling interpreters of biblical and rabbinic traditions, and draws on modern insights from literature, psychology, and philosophy,” she added.

Dr. Zornberg will address the topic of family relationships, using the biblical story of Joseph. Joseph dreams provocative dreams and his brothers' hatred grows because of them; According to Freud, all dreams contain a 'navel,' a spot that defies understanding that 'reaches into the unknown.' In the Midrash, that unfathomable element in the lives of Jacob and Joseph is represented by Rachel, the 'unknown woman' in their narrative. Literature, film, and psychoanalytic thought will enrich our study.

This event is open to all, an $18 donation is requested at the door. For more information or to RSVP, please email Layah at layahlipsker@gmail.com
