Denzel Washington to Film Movie The Equalizer in Swampscott Monday

Actor Denzel Washington will be plying his craft at a home on Magnolia Road Monday, July 1.

Just like old times. Sort of.

A Swampscott neighborhood will again host a major Hollywood actor when Denzel Washington appears on a Magnolia Road set for the movie The Equalizer, Monday, July 1, according to local sources.

Generators and a lift were positioned outside a home at 61 Magnolia Road Sunday afternoon. Yellow and black "EQ" and "Set" signs pointed actors and crew to the location.

Neighbors said they were excited by the prospect of Academy Award winner Denzel Washington coming to their neighborhood.

The Equalizer is said to be loosely based on a 1980s television show about a private detective. The movie could be the start of a franchise series for Washington, a local businessman, Bill Laganas, told Patch earlier.

Laganas, owner of Lynn Meatland — a meat market, sandwich shop and catering company in Lynn — did catering, big and small, for Grown Ups 2 last year, and Laganas is friendly with movie crew members.

The Magnolia area is no stranger to movie shoots. Several scenes from the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2 — due out July 12 — were shot in the area last summer.

The base camp for The Equalizer is to be at Phillips Park.
