Collin Walsh is Drawn to Science, Sports and Drama

Swampscott boy loves a challenge, on the stage, on the field or in the classroom.

Whether on the stage or playing second base for the Little League Athletics, Collin Walsh is a big hit.

The 10-year-old, who lives on Lexington Circle with his parents and two older siblings, just finished up a great four-show run as one of the Wickersham Brothers in the Swampscott Middle School Theater Club’s spring production of Seussical, Jr.

Walsh hit the stage last fall in the SMSTC’s production of Hamlette, playing the role of Horatio in his first acting role.

“One of my friends was doing it, so I wanted to try acting, and it turned out to be a real lot of fun,” Walsh said.

A fifth grader at the Middle School, Walsh loves science, and had a great time at the recent overnight trip to Boston’s Museum of Science with his classmates.

“We had a great time, we saw some cool shows and it was great,” Walsh said. “We saw some things at the museum that reminded me of some of the projects we’re working on at school.”

While science is Collin’s favorite class, he relishes the challenges he gets in math class, and goes after each new problem enthusiastically.

“I like to act, I like school and I have a good time playing football, baseball and basketball.”

When Collin’s not busy playing ball, acting in a play or studying, he likes to hang out with his friends.

“It’s really neat to hear people cheer and applaud when you’re one stage," Walsh said. "My grades are good, I love my family, I usually have fun whatever I'm doing."
