Bauder Looks Back on Impressive Time at SHS

Marco Bauder has spent his time wisely at Swampscott High School, expanding his horizons in the classroom, on the sea and on the run.

Swampscott High School senior is finishing up his time at SHS focused on academics and captaining the school’s sailing team.

Bauder, an honor roll student, and fellow senior Anna Booras are co-captains of the team this year.

Bauder was a member of the cross-country team last fall, with his best run coming against cross-town rival Marblehead.

When not sailing or running, Bauder is focused on studying and is a member of the TV Production group. After studying Latin for several years, Bauder switched to Chinese after the Latin Program was dropped.

“I like a challenge,” Bauder said.  “Chinese is an interesting language because of its complexities, and I’m sure it will be useful in the future for me.”

Bauder lives with his mom Ulla, and dad Rainer, and younger sister Victoria, who is a freshman at Swampscott High.

Bauder said he will never forget his years and classes at Swampscott High, especially Mrs. DeFeo, his sophomore English teacher, and Mrs. Montiero, his advanced calculus teacher.

In the honors programs and advanced placement classes at Swampscott, Marco came from Germany to this country when he was eight years old and has flourished ever since.

“The staff and the teachers were amazing at Swampscott, especially throughout my senior year,” Bauder said.

Marco will head to Scotland in August to prepare for classes at the University of Edinburgh to pursue a degree in humanities. Bauder is excited to go back to Europe and begin the next chapter of his life.

“I’m sad Swampscott High is coming to an end for me, but thrilled about what’s happening next,”Bauder said.

Bauder will teach in the Swampscott Recreation Commission’s sailing program this summer, and one of his greatest pleasures is sharing his love of sailing with other people.
