1) Newsbit of the Day: Sammi Rizzo is one of several Swampscott students making a difference in the lives of Special Olympians. They practice with the local Special Olympics soccer entry, the North Shore Rovers, on Sunday mornings behind the Swampscott Middle School.

Sammi is a sophomore at Swampscott High. She plays goalie for the Big Blue soccer team and, when she grows to adulthood, wants to be a doctor, working with kids who have special needs.

This is her first year with the Rovers program, and she is enjoying her time on the field with the kids.

"It's worth waking up early, seeing them have so much fun," she said on a recent Sunday morning at the field. 

2) Swampscott Scholars: 2012 Swampscott High graduate Marina Padovani received the Jaime Moore and Ruthy Paster Memorial Scholarship.
