Turkey Drive for My Brother's Table

A huge thank you to all who participated, family, friends and neighbors in Swampscott and Lynn and surrounding communities, in the 2013 Turkey Drive for My Brother's Table. Thanks to all of you, 58 turkeys, 12lbs of coffee, 25lbs of sugar, numerous bags of canned food and boxed stuffing mix, as well as checks in the amount of $575.00, were all delivered by Thanksgiving.

A number of the donated turkeys were cooked and served at MBT. Others were delivered to local food pantries to help provide a Thanksgiving meal for those in need.

Thanksgiving morning, volunteers decorated the MBT dining hall with fall silk flowers. Hand drawn placemats were made for each table. Halloween candy, donated by children from the Clarke School, was bagged up for guests to take after the meal. A generous supply of donated hats and mittens was available for anyone who needed them.

As meal time approached, the wonderful smell of turkey cooking filled the kitchen air. The stuffing was made. The vegetables had been peeled, cut and cooked and were ready to serve. Desserts were piled high. Cold apple cider waited. A delicious, hot Thanksgiving meal was lovingly prepared. Leaving MBT, a line of individuals, children and elderly, were huddled outside in the cold eagerly waiting for the doors to open. A stark reminder of why your help is so needed.

I wanted to describe to you how your giving took shape. Deep gratitude to all of you. Happy Holidays.
