Summit Team at SHS

There will be an organizational meeting of the new International Economic Summit  club team on Wednesday, September 11 at 2:30 sharp in the first floor computer lab at SHS for all Swampscott High students who are looking for an interesting co-curricular activity.  The program culminates in an all-day regional summit game with 15 area high schools at Gillette Stadium on December 4, 2013.

All are welcome to come to the meeting and check it out.   SHS students will participate in teams of five, each team representing a different country of the students’ choice. Countries will be chosen at the first meeting.  There is no fee for this activity.

There is a wide range of activities in the program so that all students of all abilities and grades can participate at different levels, learn something, and have fun. There are costumes, foods, and bargaining for imports and exports, as well as investigating complex global and environmental issues.

This is an excellent activity for students working on a global competency certification portfolio, or for students who want to learn a little more about the world in which they will live and work.  No previous knowledge of economics is required.

International Economic Summit definition: "The Summit is a simulation of the global economy. It is an effective learning experience for high school students on globalization, international relations and economics. At the Summit, student teams, representing the nations of today's complex world, compete for scarce resources, form strategic country alliances, debate global issues, invest in long term development projects, interact with global economic institutions, and seek to stabilize and advance the global economy."
