Nahant Youth Interns in Shanghai, China

Matthew Ryan of Nahant, a rising Senior at Boston College High School, traveled to Shanghai, China this summer for an adventure of a lifetime.      Matt earned a prestigious internship working at Wuxi Apptec, a large pharmaceutical company based in Shanghai.

For a month, Matt was totally immersed in the Chinese culture where he lived with a family that spoke only Mandarin. He spent his time working in the Genome Center of Wuxi Apptec, in the DNA Sequencing lab and along with other interns from around the world, he taught English to WUXI employees in a structured classroom setting.

Matt has studied Chinese since coming to BC High Arrupe Division 7th grade and he plans to pursue Chinese studies in college. Matt is the son of proud parents, John and Kathleen Ryan.
