Avidity Volleyball Club Launches Summer Clinics for Girls!

This summer Avidity Volleyball Club of Marblehead is excited to be running two girls volleyball summer clinics designed to offer girls at the high school and junior level an exciting opportunity to participate in instruction and practice while building teamwork and learning strategies for improving conditioning and fitness. Open to girls across the North Shore the clinics will be directed by Killeen Ross, Avidity Volleyball Executive Director and Marblehead High School Girls Volleyball Head Coach.

Ross brings a wealth of experience both as a player and coach having competed on one of the country’s top hundred high school teams and playing for the Endicott volleyball team throughout college. Ross served as the assistant coach at Endicott for two years in addition to coaching for the North Shore Volleyball Club and volleyball camps across New England before launching Avidity Volleyball Club. The Avidity Volleyball Club mission is focused on providing local players with the opportunity to compete in the New England Regional Volleyball Association club season from December through May as part of USA Volleyball and offer additional volleyball skills clinics throughout the year.

According to Ross, “There is a great need for more girls volleyball instruction and clinics to support the growing number of players participating at the high school and junior level. I am thrilled to be able to offer these clinics to girls in Marblehead and across the North Shore to further the sport of girls volleyball and introduce the game to a new generation of girls!”

High school girls entering grades 9-12 can participate in the Avidity Volleyball Summer Clinic on July 28-August 1, 8:00am-12:00pm at Marblehead High School. The high school clinic is designed to elevate each player’s volleyball skills to the next level and the fee for the five-day clinic is $225. This clinic will be directed by Ross and coached by North Shore area high school coaches and high-level college players to provide a high intensity learning environment.

For experienced high school players the Avidity Volleyball Summer clinic will focus on high-level drill instruction and positional practice in the area of setting, hitting, and defense to push players to understand the game better and encourage them to think more strategically about their involvement in the game. Additional focus will enhance the level of volleyball with solid instruction around defensive positioning, attacking, serving and volleyball fitness. This demanding week of play will be rewarding to those who are ready to step up their game!

For beginning high school players, Avidity Volleyball Summer Clinic will teach players a basic foundation of the main elements of volleyball including passing, setting, attacking, and serving. Players will gain perspective for how to rotate around a volleyball court and the positions on the court players take. This week will prepare high school athletes for volleyball tryouts.

Junior girls entering grades 5-8 can participate in the Avidity Volleyball Junior Summer Clinic on July 21-July 25 from 9:00am-11:30am at Marblehead High School. The Junior Clinic is designed to teach girls a solid foundation in volleyball, whether they are new to the game or have played before and the fee for the five-day clinic is $125.

The focus for the Junior Summer Clinic week will be to provide focused instruction around the fundamentals and the rules of the game. For girls in grades 5-6, this clinic will focus on volleyball movements, tracking the volleyball across the net, and skill development including passing, setting, hitting, and serving. For girls in grades 7-8 and more advanced players, this clinic will step-up the level of basic skills and concentrate more on strategy of the game. Girls will work on their offensive and defensive movements, as well as team play. Marblehead High School Volleyball Head Coach Killeen Ross and Marblehead High School Junior Varsity Coach Jeff Morse will teach the Junior Summer Clinic and are excited to work with the younger players and provide a fun and challenging experience!
