Asset Preservation: Estate Planning v. Medicaid Planning
Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA
Come to meet, socialize and learn with other older adults. Every month we offer a host of activities asked for by older adults in our community.
Attorney Andrew Christensen will explore the differences between basic estate planning and Medicaid planning, also known as asset preservation. This discussion will review the basic estate planning directives that all persons should have in place as they age, whether they have $1,000 or are millionaires. The discussion will review how the same basic estate plan directives are different from an asset preservation perspective.
Attorney Christensen will also discuss why planning and protecting assets at an earlier age is valuable, due to long term health care costs and avoiding the “Five Year Look Back”.
As part of this discussion, community based Medicaid options will be discussed as well as different hypothetical situations when someone needs skilled nursing care.
