Peace Corps Volunteer to Speak

Swampscott Library Program

PEACE CORP VOLUNTEER TO SPEAK AND ENCOURAGE KNITTED DONATIONS FOR MONGOLIA

On Tuesday, May 14th at 7:00pm at the Swampscott Public Library hear Judy Gates who will speak about her adventures as a Peace Corp volunteer in Mongolia. She returned last year from her service as a business volunteer in this starkly beautiful land where ancient traditions and a nomadic lifestyle still thrive among cell phones and computers. She shares her experiences in an illustrated presentation accompanied by samples of the local crafts. We see why, although she's now 70, she plans to return again and again to the place where she has left half her heart. Judy is also asking for knitted donations for the people of Mongolia. If you come to hear her you could pick up a skein of yarn and quickly make a hat, scarf, mittens or gloves towarm the people of this region. We will have yarn and some needles available for the taking.
