"Off The Shelf"

Catch up with what is going off the shelf at the Swamspcott Public Library this week.

As the saying goes, “humor is the best medicine” and
many authors and readers as well agree with this concept. The following are a
few new humorous titles at the library.

Pineapple Grenade by Tim Dorsey

In this adventure we once again meet up with the
one-man vigilante Serge Storm. Serge and his cohort Coleman decide that it is
time that they offer their services to a higher authority. They decide to go
global and so they visit the consulate of Costa Gorda and offer to spy on—well,
whoever needs spying on for this dominion. The security detail at the consulate
throws them out and in Serge’s mind, this means that they have been hired. The Summit of the
Americas is upcoming and there is rumor of an assassination plot involving
Costa Gordan President Guzman. Serge prevents one attempt on Guzman's life and he becomes an aide de camp to the President.
While Serge is doing his things, so are others, all creating a convoluted,
crazy plot that totally entertains the reader. Anyone who reads Dorsey will
love this entry and if you haven’t read  him and you are in need of a good laugh, give The Pineapple Express a chance.

Best Friends, Occasional Enemies by Lisa Scottoline and Francesca Serritella is another humorous book. Author Lisa Scottoline and her daughter,
Francesca Serritella write a column every Sunday for the Philadelphia Inquirer.  This humorous column gave birth to three books so far.  Every mother and daughter will be able to relate to the back and forth between this mother daughter combo. Both of these women appreciate life as it is today. They give helpful hints to the women of this time to try to expect good things and perhaps good things will happen. They both share their feelings and their experiences in a manner that is fun to read. Don’t miss this enjoyable book.

Julia’s Child by Sarah Pinneo is the third of our humorous books. Obviously the title is a play on the name of a great chef and Pinneo herself is a cookbook author. Julia Bailey, the character in the book, is a "mompreneur" with too many principles and too little time. Her fledgling company, Julia's Child, makes organic toddler meals with names like Gentle Lentil and Give Peas a Chance. She wants to be successful but not at the cost of her children. She faces the same decision
that many women today face, to work outside the home or not to work outside the
home. Julia is a woman with ideals and ethics and she doesn’t want to
compromise any of them. She must find a way to accomplish her dreams and remain true to herself. This is another read, not to be missed. That is what is “off the shelf” at the Swampscott Public Library this week.
