Jane Austen Week

Jane Austen is Alive and Well and Living in Swampscott

The Swampscott Public Library will be hosting a Jane Austen
Tea and lecture on Monday, March 11th at 6:30pm.  The lecture entitled “Jane Austen is Alive
and Well and Living in Swampscott” will be presented by Maria Folsom, a
professor of literature at Wheelock College. Ms.  Folsom has published numerous essays on
Austen and has edited Approaches to Teaching Austen’s Pride and Prejudice
and Approaches to Teaching Austen’s Emma. Registration for this event
begins on March 1st.  This
program is the highlight of Jane Austen Week at the library. On Tuesday, March
12th at 1:00pm the library will be showing  “The Jane Austen Book Club”. On Wednesday, we
will present the movie “Sense and Sensibility” at 10:30 am. On Thursday, March
14th at 6:00pm, the movie of the day will be “Pride and
Prejudice”.  We will follow up on Friday
with “You’ve Got Mail”, the comedy starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, who discuss
Pride and Prejudice throughout the movie. We will wrap up our Jane Austen week
on Saturday, March 16th with the movie “Becoming Jane”. This movie
will start at 10:30 am.
