What Becomes of the Old Police Station?

Noteworthy items about Swampscott this day, Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013.

1. Plans for the Old Police Station: 

Town Administrator Tom Younger will be scheduling a public meeting on this topic this fall. The town adminstrator was on vacation Wednesday but said that when he returns to work, on Tuesday, he will sit with the new town Planner/Energy Efficiency Manager Brian Szekely to gather ideas and plans for the vacant building. 

"He will be a big part of that," Younger said of the new planner.

The station went quiet late Tuesday after police moved to their new address, 531 Humphrey St.

Earlier in the summer the town administrator and Selectman Chairman Jill Sullivan broached plans to host a public meeting in September on what to do with the vacant station and the vacant Machon School.

3. Academic Notes:
On a morning marked by wispy clouds in a blue sky, more than 21,000 people -- graduates and their families and friends, including Marnine Copeland -- braved gale force winds to celebrate the University of Delaware's 164th Commencement, held Saturday, May 25, at Delaware Stadium.

4. More Academic Notes:
Megan Dawley of Swampscott, MA was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Studies from Plymouth State University at their 142nd Commencement ceremony on May 18, 2013.

5.Good Works:

The Alzheimer’s Association 2013 Northeastern Massachusetts Walk to End Alzheimer’s® will take place on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 200 Brickstone Square in Andover, Massachusetts.
