Upcoming North Shore Parade to Honor Veterans

Noteworthy items in Swampscott today, Friday, Aug. 30.

1. Veterans Notes: 
Sunday, Sept. 22, starting at 1 p.m. there will be a North Shore Appreciation Parade for veterans starting at Federal Street in Lynn, to Western Avenue North to Chestnut Street east to Goodrich Street and ending at Lynn English High School.
At Lynn English High School there will be food, live music, a Civil War recampment, Kisoks from each of the armed services, a static display of military vehicles, parachute jump and much more.

2. Weather Watch: 

Friday's forecast calls for mostly sunshine and a high temperature of 74.

  • Low tide: 1:10 p.m.
  • Sunset: 7:20 p.m.
3. Academic Notes:

About 13,600 Purdue University students earned semester honors for the spring 2013 semester.

To earn semester honors, students must be attending at least half-time, have at least a 3.5 semester grade point average and at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.


4. More Academic Notes:

Local residents were recently named to the dean's list at the University of Massachusetts Lowell for the Spring 2013 semester.

Among those recognized for achieving academic distinction at UMass Lowell were:

Jonathan Barlam of Swampscott, majoring in English


5.Good Works:

The Alzheimer’s Association 2013 Northeastern Massachusetts Walk to End Alzheimer’s® will take place on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 200 Brickstone Square in Andover, Massachusetts.
