Cancer therapies and medications can leave the skin with side effects including dryness, rashes, hyperpigmentation or very thin, sensitive skin.  The benefits of an Oncology Facial include bringing the skin back into balance, learning to use gentle, mild products and maintaining the integrity of the skin both pre and post treatment.  This is a very relaxing spa treatment that increases endorphins which reduce stress and anxiety and also help with pain management and healing.

Essential Friends Spa has recognized the need for this type of specialized spa treatment and is excited to finally introduce Goldberg and Oncology Facials to the community. Gift certificates for Oncology Facials are available.

"People who experience any type of cancer treatment are usually going through a wide range of emotions.  Skin care treatments have the ability to calm anxiety and pain as well as increase comfort,” said Goldberg. “The power of touch is very important during cancer treatments and is often overlooked with so many other issues. Gaining information about the right skin care products for dryness or skin irritations can make a difference before, during, and after cancer therapies.  I believe this type of facial has the ability to increases quality of life for clients."

Goldberg brings a dual license to the spa as both an occupational therapist and licensed esthetician.  She has worked with patients for 18 years as an occupational therapist in many settings and has earned certifications as both a certified hand therapist and lymphedema specialist. Goldberg’s interest in wellness and integrative health led her to further her education at the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics where she graduated from the 900-Hour Accelerated Advanced Program and became a licensed esthetician.  She enjoys treating clients in all aspects of skin care but has a particular interest in oncology clients and has advanced training in manual lymph drainage and a certification in Clinical Oncology Esthetics.

The massage provided with Oncology Support Facials is modified based on surgery and lymph node removal. Prior to the treatment, a thorough consultation and communication with client’s doctors are required. TechNiche TherapiresTM products are used for the facials. TechNiche products are free of fragrances, parabens, sulfates and phthalates and formulated specifically for individuals with compromised skin.

Freni says Goldberg assesses each client individually, customizes a treatment program and provides a very relaxing and quality experience. She loves educating clients on their specific skin type and condition and how to care for their skin. Goldberg is looking forward to working at Essential Friends and treating clients on the North Shore.
