Day 2: Hello Winter, Guess You're Here to Stay

Good morning, Swampscott, the cover photo for this post comes from 17-year-old Cam Byrne of Swampscott. Thanks, Cam.

It's 2014's first sunset at Fisherman's Beach.

Today and tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 3, Swampscott's public schools will be canceled, courtesy of Hercules, the powerful Nor'easter expected to pile up the snow on the North Shore.

We will have a storm center up on Swampscott Patch with information about the storm.

Send us your photos or observations and we will pass them along to your fellow readers. You can send your info or photos to terry.date@patch.com

Meanwhile, enjoy the photos and video from yesterday's Polar Bear Plunge at Fisherman's Beach.

Thank you to contributors Ulf Westhoven, Steve Webster and at least one anonymous sender.

Also in today's Patch is a thank you from the Walker family to the many friends and neighbors and town employees who have helped them recover from a fire at their home in December.
