Artificial Turf Meeting Thursday at Phillips Park

Five noteworthy things to know about Swampscott today, Aug. 21.

1. Field Notes: 
 On Thursday at 6 p.m., the Friends of Swampscott Athletic Fields 
will hold a public meeting at Blocksidge Field, Phillips Park, 
Humphrey Street, regarding a proposal to renovate 
Blocksidge Field by replacing its natural grass field with a wider, 
multi-sport, artificial field.  The 
meeting will also discuss Swampscott’s submission of a Parkland Acquisitions 
and Renovations for Communities (PARC) Grant application with the Executive 
Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs seeking financial assistance for the 
project.  Public parking is available in 
the adjacent parking lot and public transportation is available by taking the 
MBTA Bus Routes #442 or #449.  If you 
cannot attend the meeting but would like to provide comments, you can do so by

3. Academic Notes:
 Cody Kline of Swampscott was named to the Dean's list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the Spring 2013 semester. The dean's list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade-point averages of a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 and have no grades below "C." Kline studies Business and Management.

5. Town Notes:
Selectmen meet Wednesday at 7 at Town Hall. Agenda items include a vote on filling a vacancy in the police department roster; setting the water and sewer rates for the coming fiscal year;  and an executive session.
