Community Update

1. Festa Time:

Holy Family Church in Lynn, 26 Bessom St., the home to several of Ocean Bay's Girl Scout troops as well an annual cookie swap, is having its annual FESTA Italiana on August 8-10.  The event promises to be lots of fun with a special "Kids Day" theme on Saturday from 12-4.  Entertainment provided by "Sea Bees" of Swampscott on Thursday evening, a yet-to-be-announced act on Friday evening and dance presentations from "Donna's Dance" and a visit from "Elvis" on Saturday evening.

Friday's forecast calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 7 am and 1 pm, then isolated thunderstorms after 1 pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain.

The Planning Board meets Monday at 7 at the Senior Center. The agenda is to be determined.

4. School Notes:

Sarah Gardiner of Swampscott, MA, a member of the class of 2013 at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., has received Faculty Honors for the 2013 spring semester.

To earn Faculty Honors, a student must achieve a semester grade point average of at least a 3.667 with no individual letter grade below B-minus.5. Festa Time: 


5. School Notes II:

The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that more than 3,700 undergraduates have qualified for the Spring 2013 Dean's List. The students represent all of Rhode Island's cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, many other states and more than a dozen countries. The list includes the following students:

  • Cassandra R Livingston of Swampscott, MA
  • Arthur James Duffy of Swampscott, MA

To be included on the Dean's List, students must have completed 12 or more credits during a semester for letter grades with at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 credits with a 3.30 quality point average.
