    As of 11 a.m., 96 customers (homes and/or businesses) were without power in Swampscott, according to a National Grid spokeswoman. There is no estimated time at which power will be restored since crews are working onmultiple outgaes throughout the state, the spokeswoman said. Statewide there are now under 200,000 customers without power.  As of midnight Monday an estimated 1,100 homes and businesses were without power in Swampscott, Fire Chief Kevin Breen said.   One of the first things the town administrator saw on his way to work along Lynn Shore Drive Monday morning was two surfers and two wind surfers out in the water. The sight got him thinking Hurricane Sandy might make for an interesting day. As it turned out, the day went about as well as it could have, Town Administrator Tom Younger said.   Swampscott Fire Chief Kevin Breen reported at 6:30 p.m. that power has been restored to most of the 1,500 customers who lost electricity earlier today. He estimated that a couple hundred customers were without power, now. National Grid buckets were in the air throughout the afternoon, keeping up with the downed lines and restoring power to Vinnin Square and Essex Street among other areas. The next big event will be the midnight high tide, the fire chief said. Earlier, at 3 p.m., the chief reported power outages were rampant.   Due to potential power outages, flooding and flying debris, Dr. Lynne Celli has announced that Swampscott schools will be closed for students and personnel on Oct. 29.Ms. Morse, the director of Extended Day Programs, has announced that Extended Day Programs as well as the Teen Center will be closed as well.

The peak of the storm should hit our area throughout the day Monday and may affect our weather all the way into Wednesday.   "Watchful waiting" are the words that describe what local officials are doing as Hurricane Sandy takes shape and tracks north, says Swampscott fire Chief Kevin Breen.
