(Gathering Change, Inc. raises money for food pantries in the towns the pantries reside.)
On January 16th, Gathering Change, Inc. participated in 5% Day at Whole Foods in Swampscott. Not only did the staff make us feel welcome, but we got to speak with enthusiastic shoppers, reconnect with a dear friend and increase hunger awareness in Swampscott. We were thrilled to hear that 5% of the day’s pre-tax total came to $3,501.69.
This past week GGI delivered checks to three amazing organizations who work tirelessly to help those in their community struggling with food insecurity: Swampscott Interfaith Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and the Jewish Family and Children's Services Family Table Program (www.essexcountyhungerrelief.org/Jewish-Family-Services-Kosher-Food-Pantry).
When I asked Pat Krippendors, who volunteers at the Swampscott Interfaith Food Pantry, how difficult it was to only bring food to the Senior Center and Elderly Housing once a month, she quoted Calvin Coolidge who said: " "We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once." This beautiful town 15 miles north of Boston is only 3 square miles and borders the Atlantic Ocean, but even they are not immune to hunger.
Thank you Whole Foods of Swampscott for your hospitality, generosity and commitment to helping your neighbors in need!
