Former Students To Memorialize Beloved Music Man Bob Foucht

The memorial service for Byron "Bob" Foucht, long-time and beloved music teacher in the Swampscott schools will be held Saturday, May 18, 10 a.m. at the First Church in Swampscott.

The memorial service for Byron "Bob" Foucht, long-time and beloved music teacher in the Swampscott schools who passed away on Feb. 7, will be held Saturday May 18, 10 a.m. at the First Church in Swampscott. As part of the service, five former students will perform the world premiere of a jazz arrangement created by a sixth student in Mr. Foucht's honor — the Swampscott Marching Band's signature "On Wisconsin." David Bondelevitch (SHS '81) says the idea for the arrangement came during discussions about the memorial. "Perhaps my happiest times in high school were playing in the stage [jazz] band. Mr. Foucht was a huge jazz fan." Bondelevitch went on to study jazz composition at the Berklee College of Music with the legendary Herb Pomeroy. "…

In four years, actually, and I got through Berklee in five semesters. I say that not to brag, but to make a point about Mr. Foucht. One of the reasons I made it through Berklee so quickly was that I passed almost entirely out of freshman year on my placement exam. That's quite an accomplishment considering I never had a theory, harmony, ear training, or arranging class in high school. I learned …   more ›

Swampscott Goes to the Movies

Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner's Hair the Rage

Tweets abound on the late 1970 hairdos sported by actors in the movie American Hustle.

Tweets abound on the late 1970 hairdos sported by actors in American Hustle, a David O. Russell movie being shot in Massachusetts. Bradley Cooper's perm and Jeremy Renner's puffy wave drew comments (see below) from set watchers at locations in and around Boston. Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale and Cooper appeared in a scene shot in Swampscott's Hawthorne by the Sea restaurant early last month.  According to imdb.com, American Hustle is based on a true story in which a con artist works with a federal agent to sting mobsters and politicians in the 1970s. Swampscott Goes to the Movies

Denzel Washington May Be Coming to Town For a Movie

That's the word from a local businessman.

Will Denzel Washington be the next star to make a movie in Swampscott? Bill Laganas, owner of Lynn Meatland — a meat market, sandwich shop and catering company in Lynn — said yesterday he got a call late last week from movie crew members saying movie scouts were looking at locations in Swampscott for a Denzel Washington film. Lynn Meatland did catering, big and small, for Grown Ups 2 last year, and Laganas is friendly with movie crew members. Laganas said he was told the Denzel Washington movie could take place in July, maybe the second week. The Swampscott location isn't cast in stone, he said.  Boston Magazine reported that Washington was expected shoot scenes for the movie The Equalizer in Boston in June. The movie is loosely based on a…

What's New With the Grown Ups 2's Sandler, Lautner, Rock, and Hayek Crew

With two months to go the movie stars have been promoting their film on television and in Cancun.

Movie stars who made Swampscott home last summer have been traveling the promotional circuit with only two months before Grown Ups 2's opening. That would be July 12. A new throwback, promo movie poster shows four of the film's stars from their high school yearbooks. Meanwhile, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Taylor Lautner, Maya Rudolph and Chris Rock have made appearances in Las Vegas, Cancun, Mexico and, last month, the entire group, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In a recent edition of Totalfilm.com Lautner said he enjoyed the laughter and learned from the cast, and was intimidated. Sandler said Lautner brought his own intimidation, a following of  high-pitched screaming fans at each of his stops. Some of those …
