What Should Go Here?

We ask: What business would you like to see move into the former Blockbuster space on Paradise Road?

The store space at 1016 Paradise Road has been vacant for a long time.

Former tenant Blockbuster closed its doors Feb. 13, 2011, after having done business in Swampscott since at least 1998.

The 4,700-square-foot space remains empty.

We'd like to know what you think is the kind of business that should move to this location?

Write your thought in the comments section below.

How about a Marijuana dispensary? Almost 68% of our "progressive" neighbors voted for it.

Almost 54% of our Swamspcott neighbors also voted for assisted suicide despite the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Massachusetts Hospice and Palliative Care Federation, the American Medical Directors Association, and the National Council on Disability all opposing this bill.

So maybe a corner of this dispensary could be saved for when the time comes that it is legal to dispense 100 secanol tablets (the next election is only 2 years away), we can kill two birds with one stone....literally.

A men's and women's shoe store. Somewhere where I can get fitted for quality dress shoes without having to go to the mall.

How about a diner? My wife is from NJ and misses having a good diner nearby.

The question is not what we want but which businesses want to go there. Judging by a considerable number of the empty spaces in Swampscott, the answer is "not too many."
