Swampscott Man Allegedly Stabbed Victim After Accident
The victim is in stable condition in a Boston hospital. The suspect was ordered held on bail at his arraignment Monday.
The Swampscott man charged with stabbing a 22-year-old at a party in Revere early Sunday morning was ordered held on $5,000 bail on Monday.
Jamaal Andrade, 28, of 184 Burrill St., was arrested by Swampscott police after a disturbance at his apartment at 2:10 am Sunday morning.
Later, Revere police took custody of the 28-year-old for a separate incident, a stabbing that took place at a party earlier in the evening in Revere, said Swampscott police Det. Tim Cassidy.
On Monday in Chelsea District Court, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Miller told Judge James Wexler that the 22-year-old victim had been at a party on Alden Avenue in Revere in the early morning hours Sunday.
The man was in a car with friends preparing to leave when a second car rear-ended his vehicle, according to a news release by Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley's office.
The victim got out of the car and began to yell at Andrade, who was driving the second car, Miller said in court.
Andrade allegedly accelerated at the victim, who jumped onto the hood of Andrade’s car and broke the windshield.
Andrade allegedly got out of his car and the two began to argue. The argument became a physical confrontation and Andrade allegedly retrieved a knife from inside the car, according to the prosecution.
Prosecutors say Andrade chased the victim around the vehicle several times and stabbed him in the back before fleeing.
The victim was from Tewksbury.
He was transported to East Boston Health Center and then to Boston Medical Center with a deep stab wound that doctors say narrowly missed his vital organs, the DA's office said.
The man is in stable condition.
At court, Andrade shouted from the prisoner’s dock that he only did it because the victim punched him and pushed him against the window, the DA's office said.
Andrade was represented by attorney Paul Anthony. He will return to court on Jan. 18.
Swampscott police arrested Andrade on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace as well as for two outstanding warrants — for possession of Class A drugs out of Dorchester District Court, and operating with a suspended license, and speeding out of Lawrence District Court, police said.
Revere charges include armed assault and battery with intent to commit murder, police said.
