Shoplifter Charged with Assault
Two men in their late 30s allegedly stole a carton of cigarettes before one of the men shoved a police officer.
A Revere man is scheduled back in court June 15, on charges of stealing a carton of cigarettes and shoving a police officer.
Keith Perry, 38, of 61 Pomona Ave. Apt. A, was arraigned Friday for shoplifting, assault and battery on a police officer, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and having an unregistered/uninsured motor vehicle, according to court records.
On Thursday, May 19 at 9:40 p.m., police were dispatched to Walgreens drug store on Paradise Road for a report of men shoplifting and heading out the door, the record states.
A Swampscott police officer located one of the men, Perry, at the CVS store across the street.
The officer asked Perry what he took from Walgreens, and Perry shoved the officer and ran away.
Perry slipped and fell, got up and was headed towards Paradise Road when the officer tackled him, the record states.
An unknown man helped subdue Perry and a fellow officer helped handcuff him, the record states.
Police later found a carton of cigarettes, minus one pack, in Perry’s car, a ’94 Jaguar; and a pack of cigarettes down his pants.
Perry was ordered held on $2,500 bail at his arraignment in Lynn District Court.
Police also arrested Roberto Robles 38, of East Boston, charging him with shoplifting. He was located near Walgreens.
A witness told police that it appeared that Robles was distracting the drug store clerk while Perry stole the cigarettes, the record states.
Perry is scheduled for a pretrial hearing June 15,
