School Committee Candidates Square Off in Q&A Forum Thursday

The forum is at 7 p.m. in the library at Swampscott High School.

1) Newsbit of the Day:

The Swampscott League of Women Voters will host a Q&A forum for School Committee candidates on Thursday, April 25, at 7 pm at Swampscott High School in the library, located on the second floor. 

The public will have the opportunity to meet the three candidates for School Committee after they speak.

The following three candidates are vying for two seats — each for three-year terms — on the committee: incumbent Jaren Landen, Carin Marshall and Amy O'Connor.

Each candidate will make an opening statement followed by questions from panelists. They will also make a closing statement.

They will be introduced by Cathy Vaucher of the Swampscott League of Voters, said Kathy Cormier, acting director of the organization.

The panelists will be reporters from Swampscott Patch and the Lynn Item, and a representative from the Swampscott High Political Action Club.

A meet the candidates reception will immediately follow.

The forum is schedule to run from 7 to 8:15 p.m.

The public is cordially invited to attend and the evening will be broadcast on local access television.  

The Swampscott League of Women Voters is part of the Massachusetts League of Women Voters, a non-partisan, grassroots organization committed to influencing public policy through education and advocacy.  For over eighty years, the League has been a leader in working to ensure that citizens have a free role in making democracy work.

The Harbor and Waterfront Advisory Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the selectmen's room at Town Hall.
