UPDATED: Races Taking Shape For Selectmen and School Seats

Two candidates have pulled papers for both the town and school seats. Candidates for local office have until March 2, to pull papers.

Most of the information for this article was courtesy of Town Clerk Sue Duplin.

Two candidates have pulled nomination papers for the open seat on the Board of Selectmen and two have picked up papers for the seat on the School Committee.

Both incumbents have declared their intent to run for reelection.

Incumbent Matt Strauss and Charles Patsios have pulled papers for the open 3-year seat on the Board of Selectmen; and incumbent Jacqueline Kinney and Francis "Ted" Delano III, a Swampscott police detective, have pulled papers for the open 3-year seat on the School Committee.

To qualify for nomination a candidate must turn in nomination papers signed by 50 registered Swampscott voters. The signatures will be certified.

The Town Clerk recommends that candidates collect extra signatures — a total of 75 — to make sure they reach the 50-signature threshold needed to qualify for the election.

Below is a list of all the open seats for which prospective candidates have pulled papers for the April 24, local election. This information was current at noon Feb. 22.

Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 54 Section1, the Town of Swampscott has changed voting precincts to reflect population changes as calculated by the Federal Census.  The precinct changes will affect all Town Meeting Seats. All 54 seats per precinct are up for election.  If your precinct number HASN’T changed just complete the bottom portion of this form and return to the Town Clerk’s Office NO later than March 6, 2012, by 5pm.  Your name will be listed on the ballot as a candidate for re-election.  If your precinctHAS changed by RE-PRECINCTING, you have MOVED, or became a Town Meeting Member thru a WRITE-IN VOTE you must come into the Town Clerks office to obtain Nomination Papers. Since all 54 Town Meeting seats will be vacant, the top 18 vote getters will secure the 3-year Town Meeting seats, the next 18 vote getters will secure the 2-year Town Meeting seats, and the next 18 vote getters will secure the 1-year Town Meeting Seats.  If you are unsure of your precinct number or have moved please call the Town Clerks Office at 781-596-8855.

Along with the 54 Town Meeting Members per Precinct up for Election are the main offices along with who’s up for re-election:

Great format for presenting the candidates info relating to who's pulled papers and returned them. Could you perhaps add a 'Signatures Certified' or 'On the Ballot' column as that info becomes available?
