Question: How many names on the Vietnam monument actually were in that country?
Answer: Swampscott Veterans Service Officer Jim Schultz said he does not know how many of the veterans listed on the monument served in the country of Vietnam.
The town's policy going back to the Civil War has been to include on monuments the names of veterans who served at the time of that particular conflict, he said.
There are some veterans listed on the town's WW I monument who died from sickness before they left their training bases, he said.
If people have questions about the town monuments he urged them to call him.
The Vietnam War Veterans Honor Roll is located on Monument Avenue.
It has about 450 names on it.

I do not think it matters how many actually went in country. The bottom line is that they made the ultimate sacrifice to this country and should be horned.

Swampscott has always been well represented when the roll was called to protect their country in every war this country has encountered starting with the Revolution. Whether being shot at or being more in the support force, they were all important to the effort. We should all be working to stay out of wars and try to have peace and not be involved in conflicts that have nothing to do with our country's security. NO MORE loss of our citizens' lives.
