POLL: Will Hurricane Sandy Help Obama?

Vote in our poll, and share your thoughts in the comments field below.

A Washington Post/ABC poll released this week showed that 80 percent of voters feel President Obama has done a good job dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Even New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie – a staunch supporter of Mitt Romney – praised Obama's response to the storm, which devastated parts of New Jersey and New York and caused serious damage in many other states, including New Hampshire.

Obama also received the endorsement of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Thursday, with Bloomberg citing Obama's handling of Hurricane Sandy as one of the main reasons he decided to support the president.

Meanwhile, Romney's previous pledge to abolish FEMA hasn't helped him in the wake of the storm.

What do you think? Will Hurricane Sandy and the way President Obama has handled the situation help him come Election Day? Or do you think it won't make any difference at all?

Vote in our poll below, leaving a comment with your thoughts.

Didn't Obama promise to heal the earth and tame the rise of the oceans? He failed

He got a short term bump, will disappear this weekend as tempers in NY rise. Reports from Staten Island looks like NO after Katrina. People are eating from dumpsters in Manhattan. People are waiting 3 hours for gas The NY Times is no longer singing the praise of big government.

Obama did not promise to singlehandedly prevent climate change (as if any one person , or for that matter one nation, could). He promised to acknowledge the looming crisis and work on mitigation, which he has done. In contrast, too many Republican know-nothings are still in denial.

If you say "yes" to any of the following, you should vote for a Republican (1) Do you like pollution? (2) Do you want to gut our natural resources? (3) Do you like war? (4) Do you believe in Creationism? (5) Do you want to restrict stem cell science research designed to help cure diseases? (6) Are you against equal pay for women? (7) Are you against abortion even in the case of rape? (8) Do you like to discriminate against LGBT? (9) Do you support Romney and the like to hoard the Global Wealth off-shore? My idea of a representative is someone who will work in the best interest of the citizenry and future generations not someone interested in maximizing their own party's GREED! Do yourself a favor and vote for ALL THE DEMOCRATS!!!

If you say yes to yes to any of the following, you should vote democrat:
1) do you like to make up outlandish lies about republicans?
2) do you like to blame everything wrong with America on bush?
3) do you like to control people's lives without their permission?
4) do you think your the smartest person in the room?
5) do you like to say, we just went to war for oil?
6) the huge debt and obamas lack of experience and incompetance is Bush's fault!
7) republicans hate woman, children, the elderly, the poor, the middle class, and everyone that does not agree with them!
8) republicans want to take away a woman's Vagina!
9) democrates believe in all of the above, as well as, Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy, and the Bush did it monster!
If your not a FOOL,
Vote republican accross the board!

It will help because this is precisely the event that only big gov't can handle. People that believe in using big gov't for good (see Bush/Kartina vs. Obama/Sandy) will excel and get it solved. Private enterprise does not have the military, national guard, police and fire resources that something of this magnitude requires.

Will not help much, if anything it will hurt is popular vote numbers as NYC and NJ turnout for him will be way way way down

BTW all you big government is good groupies What is Obama's big plan ? Yep it's to go all small government on you.

Yep, waivers for EPA regs, waivers for custom gas blends, his big plan a waiver for any government regulation in the way.

He of course will not actually grant any of the waivers, but it's a great sound bite.

Still its nice to know that Obama has admitted Romney is right, the way to get things done is to get government out of the way.

Sandy just spotlights the absurdity of the big government is better idea, for anyone willing to look at what's going on objectively.

Sandy vs. Katrina

Really, that all you got to prop this guy up, comparing a Cat 1 superCane to a cat 5 superCane?..

Mayor of Hoboken being for help, people stranded in AC, gas lines, looting, NYC flooded and without power for who knows how long,

Looks pretty similar in every respect except for the press coverage if you ask me.

Jay, Jeff here. I'm just curious what your explanation is for Benghazi and Dear Leader's decision to allow the 4 Americans to die there so as to protect his reelection chances and also to appease the followers of the Religion of Peace ? Or was that darned video to blame for this all ?

The two hardest hit areas (Ocean County in NJ and Richmond County in NY) were Republican strongholds in otherwise heavily Democratic states in recent presidential elections. Apparently the sword of wrath has two edges. Why do we see such partisan demonization of the "other" party? Grow up folks the "other guy" isn't always to blame for cultural and governmental failures.

No, Governor Christie just gave away the farm and the opportunity for rampant voter fraud, you can vote in NJ via E-Mail, really ?

Whether you like Obama or not, we are going to get hit hard with Obama Care Cost, once he is or if Obama is re-elected. And if we have Warren, Obama, Tierney, within ten years all of us will be in the poor house together as the government through the health care mandate will have electronic access to withdraw from personel bank accounts.

Obama did nothing but show up for a photo op. Romney believes the states can handle emergency's better than the people who rn Medicare, S.S. and so many other bloated programs heading for collapse.
Volunteers, not FEMA, are having the greatest impact in devastated areas.

Obama, like Warren, represents more taxes, more sspending, more intrusive government and a diminished America, who for over 200 years lifted more people out of poverty and led the world in every field.
This election day, remember Benghazi!

I have to say, I've been planning to retire to salem for yrs now. It has always seemed to be a very welcoming town, everyone says hello when you pass them on the street, people are neighborly, friendly, helpfull. I joined the patch community to stay in touch with what's happening in my future home, but conversations like this make me think twice about my decision. Everyone has their opinions on this subject, but is it really worth all this negative garbage toward eachother? For those of you who don't get outside town lines much, most of this country isn't lucky enough to live in a community like yours, it is a rare find these days. Be passionate about your beliefs of course, but don't hurt your neighbor in the process, you may just be destroyin your town from the inside out

Nothing like you read on these boards. The anger and intolerance shown here is not representative of any personal experience we have had in Salem for the past three years Get involved in the opportunities offered by all the history around you and the Maritime Museum and your days will be filled learning and good people. The walking opportunities are endless. Enjoy and support our beautiful Salem and forget about all the intolerant, angry people that love to fill these boards with ugly rants.

I have a few years yet before Im able to live there permanently, but I can't wait to be a part of the town I've adored since I was I kid. As important as the history is, its the people like yourself that make salem the great place it is. I think these people need to be reminded of that.

Yes we do steve! We can't let it ruin us as a nation, we are better than all this bickering, it gets us nowhere. I'm not happy with either choice, we just gotta make an informed decision, pray for the best, & do our best as individuals, to make life better for ourselves. Ultimately we are responsible for our own happiness, who's running the country does affect that, but its our job to make the best of what is handed to us. Good luck to everyone over the next four years, no matter what side your on, you have a rough road ahead, just remember so does your neighbor

Liberals use racism like a big all covering blanket when there position is indefensible or bankrupt.Voting for someone on the basis of color does not make you "morally good", it makes you a racist.
True equality comes when you can vote for someone based on qualifications and criticism does not make you racist because a person of color can be as good or as bad, ...as anyone else.

Oh, & my living standards are not declining, maybe that's why your so angry. See, I know we are in tough times but instead of crying & complaining about it all, I got out there & pushed a little harder. That's what men do, we don't cry & blame everyone else, we stand up, & take care of business. That's the problem with america today, everyone wants a handout & nobody takes responsibility for themselves. If your that dissatisfied with your life, its prob. Not the presidents fault
