Pianist Andrew Focks in Return Engagement

On May 6, at the First Church in Swampscott, Focks and guest violinist Kimia Ghaderi will perform works by Bach, Mozart, Louie, and Mussorgsky.


Andrew Focks, currently a graduate student in piano performance at Rice University in Houston, Texas, has distinguished himself with his numerous solo, concerto, chamber, duo, and collaborative performances. 

His extensive background in performance has led him to the concert stages of international music festivals in Austria, Italy, and China, as well as various halls throughout the United States.  He is winner of the 2009-2010 MTNA Florida Young Artist competition, the 2009-2010 MTNA Southern Division Young Artist Competition, the Schlern International Music Competition, and the Lakeland Concerto Competition.  

As an undergraduate, Andrew studied under Dr. Read Gainsford at the Florida State University College of Music.  He has performed as pianist with numerous choruses (including the FSU Men’s Chorus), instrumentalists (violin, viola, cello, bass, and flute), vocalists (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), orchestras (including Lakeland Symphony and FSU Wind Orchestra), and chamber music groups.

Prior to his enrollment at FSU, Focks studied in Boston and simultaneously received his high school diploma from the St. John’s Preparatory School and the New England Conservatory Preparatory School with concert artist, Ya-Fei Chuang.  Focks also studied organ with Christa Rakich and has served as pianist/organist at The First Church in Swampscott, as well as the Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, Florida.

The program is free to the public (although donations are gladly accepted) and will feature guest violinist Kimia Ghaderi.  They will be performineg selected works by Bach, Mozart, Louie, and Mussorgsky.
