Brady Whelan knocked in what would be the equalizer Saturday, scoring the Swampscott Blue Raiders' lone goal after a breakaway on the Pentucket net.

The Swampscott U12 boys soccer team tied Pentucket Venum, 1-1, in the hard fought game in Groveland.

The Blue Raiders starters played the entire game without a break since the team had no substitutes available.

The coach split goaltending duties between two players, each playing a half in the net and a half running the field.

The goalies and defenders protected their goal, turning away numerous Pentucket scoring chances.

This was the Blue Raiders' third game of the season. Their opening day match was Sept. 8. The season ends Nov. 3.

They have lost two games and tied one.

They play next at home at the Bowl — Swampscott Middle School on Forest Avenue — against North Reading's Green Hurricanes on Saturday, Oct. 13, at noon.
