Field House in Serious Disrepair
The property is said to be plagued by rat holes and broken windows.
Several members of the Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator Thomas Younger and Public Works Director Gino Cresta are surveying the Field House to determine the extent of its decay and disrepair.
The Field House is on Humphrey Street at Phillips Park.
The building includes locker rooms for home and visiting high school teams.
Selectman Glenn Kessler said at th eboard's last meeting that the field house is in "serious disrepair," noting that the building suffers from rat holes and broken windows.
Private citizens have made some emergency repairs at their own expense, he said.
He said the town may someday have a beautiful new field or fields and a field house that is falling down.

On another topic.
Any reason why there are no parking meters on Humphrey street along the entire oceanside? For a town that can use extra income this is certainly a "no brainier".

Looking at the size of the new police station, they can borrow room in there to change. It's a short enough walk, and the supervision will be excellent!

$6 million for a police station that won't help anyone in town, but not enough money to maintain properly any town facilities. Our taxes may seem high for Massachusetts but nationally speaking they're low. You get what you pay for.

Our Police Force deserves it, The Old building is a disgrace.
It may not be in the right spot but the other location was way to close to your hood ... NIMBY.

I don't disagree with your second line "Our Police Force deserves it, The Old building is a disgrace." But that statement far from answers Jack's assertion, other than helping 40 folks on the force.

In the past fifteen or so years the field house has undergone a ground up restoration throughout the building as well as a doubling in size with the new addition on the tennis court side. I can understand if some new to town people/leaders are unaware of town resources spent lets say in the past fifteen to twenty years, but I think we want to remember what we want to. Having had a hand in the remodeling design work, for me, seeing the demise of this building in such a short period of time is disgraceful. At the rate we take care of our town's possessions, we should be thinking of plans for a new high school.

Should be used as a shelter for Us suckers getting flooded from our homes every year. We could live there untill our homes are fixed next time.
