Elizabeth Warren Is For People Like Me
A college student from Swampscott urges voters to support Elizabeth Warren for US Senate.
Letter to the Editor
Swampscott Patch
July 3, 2012
I’m a student, a woman, a daughter, a neighbor, a public high school graduate, a granddaughter, an unpaid intern. Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat running for Senate, is dedicated, ambitious, strong, and inspiring. If elected, she will fight for me, you, Swampscott, and Massachusetts.
I’m a student about to enter my junior year of college. Elizabeth has stressed the extreme importance of education. A public school and college graduate turned Harvard professor understands why great teachers and a great education are an important right, not privilege, which everyone should have access to.
I am protective of my rights as a young woman. While her opponent has cosponsored a bill that would deny birth control to thousands of women, Elizabeth Warren has taken a strong stance for protecting fundamental female rights.
Elizabeth has spent most of her life working against Wall Street greed, trying to protect the rights of ordinary Americans, like you and me, who can’t pay lobbyists to represent them in Washington.
I know there are many people out there who are just like me: students worried about paying off their college loans, women worried about losing their rights as women, neighbors worried the toddler next door will still be paying for mistakes made when I was in high school when they are grown up.
I’m supporting Elizabeth this November because she’ll do everything in her power as senator to support me.

Elizabeth Warren will do what is in her self interest, and join the other liberal elite in DC. She may help the tribe though. Anyone who can blatantly lie about their background like that, and have socialist views deserves to stay home. In fact, she should withdraw from the race.

I don't know. Brown currently ahead in the polls. Real middle of the road guy, most conservatives don't like him, but that could work in his favor. BTW, have you tried Lizzie's recipe in the Pow Wow cook book. Also at Market Basket and elsewhere, those, like me, who voted for hope and change, say they never will again, cops, firefighters, working class. Don't give up. If we were freezing in Valley Forge, whom you have been a fair weather patriot?

The fact that the Native American nonissue seems to be your only defense proves that Elizabeth Warren is truly a strong candidate. Scott Brown voted with the Republicans 93% of the time (which quickly dropped to 54% when Warren entered the race) and he was voted Wall Street's favorite Senator. Seems pretty middle of the road to me? Also, the polls at tied at 46-46.

My dear Katie, you sound like a really nice young lady just beginning to find your way in this world. I truly envy your youth and vigor. Having said that I believe that your life as well as mine should be guided by truth. Ms. Warren has been anything but truthful to the people of mass. She has continuously lied to you and all of us about her heritage and it is truly remarkable that she has not come clean on that issue. Unfortunately it does not stop there for her. When she lied about her heritage she took a job away from someone who really was a minority at that time, therefore she actually hurt the people she now says she stands up for. Ms. Warren also preyed on people who could not afford their homes and foreclosed on them and sold them at a profit for herself. Katie these are facts and I know they are stubborn things but we all must live by them. One more thing Katie, I don't know who taught you that education is a right not a privilege but they were wrong. we all need to work for what we want in this world, is water a right? is food a right? is shelter a right? is clothing a right? These are all things we need to sustain our lives. There is no substitution for hard work and being kind to others. It's how this wonderful country was born and will continue to thrive in the future God willing. Best of luck to you

A College education is not a right and neither is home ownership. They are both investments and obligations which require responsible stewardship. Rights come with responsibilities they are bestowed by Barney Frank or Elizabeth Warren! Elizabeth Warren did NOTHING to reinstate the Glass Steagall Act while she was helping draft the Frank Dodd banking regulations and she knew the rest was just window dressing that would make it look like something had been done to protect consumers. Meanwhile JP Morgan just gambled away billions more thanks that Cracker-Jack consumer protection bureau!

You make an interesting point Katie. You are being set up to pay for the mistakes of the last twelve years. Those who now speak of personal responsibility are the ones handing you the bill for the debt they ran up before you were old enough to vote.
Elizabeth Warren stands for affordable education, investment in infrastructure, investment in manufacturing and research, women's rights, and reduced health care costs. Regardless of the mess we now find ourselves in, these are the positions we need to embrace going forward.
Ordinary people like us need someone we can count on to represent our interests and Warren is that person.

Scott Brown took a Democratic seat from a similar candidate to Warren. There's no reason he shouldn't do it again. Clinton signed the banking rules that got people, cities, and the banks themselves into the mess we're paying for now and a long time to come. Obama's popularity has also fizzled as he promised change and simply shoveled more money at people who flew in on their corporate jets to pick it up from him. Warren can't even fill out a college application truthfully.
Go ahead and vote for her, hopefully there are enough of us with common sense to put the state and country back on track.

This is truly a riveting dialogue among well informed, "common sense" voters intent on putting our great country "back on track" through thoughtful criticism of Ms. Genervosa-Wong's articulate support of Elizabeth Warren. Can anyone remind me of all that Scott Brown has done for me as a state senator? Apparently, he has changed my life in some significant way, has "integrity," and knows how to put the country "back on track" to avoid becoming a country like Greece, which has a GDP less than that of New York City. Please, remind me of everything he's done. Remind me of all the "privileges" he has helped me attain through his hard work. So far, I have seen only commercials telling me how much he loves his his wife, a member of the elite liberal media.

Her lack of Native American Heritage was not her only lie. Warren stated she was a nursing mother when she sat for the New Jersey bar exam, in itself an accomplishment to be proud of. But the sociopathic nature of her personality couldn't let that achievement speak for itself, she had to further aggrandize herself by saying she was the first woman to do so. A spokesperson for the NJ bar said women have been sitting for the bar exam in NJ since 1895 and no records were kept of who may have been nursing when they sat. The spokesperson said Warren had no factual basis to make that claim. She 'contributed" to the Pow Wow Chow cookbook. Turns out, the 3 recipes she submitted were plagiarized from the creativity of others, one being a French Chef in NYC during the 60's. Ms Warren has a propensity to steal the ideas & work of others, create facts, & even steal the heritage of others for her own advancement. She claimed her parents eloped because of her father's family dislike of her mother's native American heritage. Turns out they married in a hall 14 miles away and had a reception attended by both sides of the family. Ms Warren, to advance her narative & cover her lies, disparaged her fathers family by suggesting they were racists. Ms Warren said her family was poor, on the knife's edge of poverty. Yet it was revealed that she drove a white MG to high school & that her family owned three cars in the late 60's and early 70's. She shouldn't represent us in the US Senate.

One other point to consider. The lies that I wrote about above, were all spun in a matter of a a few months to cover a lifetime of lies. Ms Warren is a compulsive liar and I think we all can rest assure that there will be a least a dozen more lies she will be caught up in before the November election. The woman can't help herself....medacity is ingrained in her nature.

Wow! Do people thrive on trash talk on this site. Warren is as described by the lady who knows her. She is a genuine non establisent force that can be believed. Brown has done nothing to point to for anyone who really checks the data. Political hype needs extensive fact checking.
Facts are good things to build an assessment with. High winded extreme shouting is an embarrassment for the speakers of such bluster...... Invincibly ignorant describes them well
Social justice should drive our thoughts here. We are a land of wealth. We are not good at sharing that wealth.
The conservatives sound a little like selfish old codgers .
It should be a crime as much as it is a moral outrage that they are so willing to look the other way at the sufferings of others. Warren pays attention to this. Obama pays attention to this. Life can be a lonely and difficult passage for anyone . A hand held out to brace or help should be every ones daily goal.

I understand that he has spent a lot of time with kings and queens, and that his daughters are currently covered under the provisions of the Affordable Care Act (so cleverly called "Obamacare" by the non-elite media), which he wants to overturn. But again, I ask my question, what concrete steps has Senator Brown taken to prevent us from becoming like Greece (gasp)? Senator Brown has not taken "concrete steps to avoid becoming Greeced because nobody in the Senate has been given the opportunity to vote on a budget. Democrats have not produced one in 3.5 years & Reid won't allow a vote on the budgets presented by House Republicans. Mr Condon, your sentiments about social justice are admirable ones, but they are hallow when the resources to offer a social safety net dwindle by the day because of failed policies by the current gov. 42% of working age American's no longer work, mostly through no fault of their own. The tax base has shrunk as a result. You can argue the smaller points of where the dwindling resources should be spent, but social justice is best served when the able-bodied has a job. The policies of Obama & a would be Senator Warren are counter to that. They are like gamblers who swear that lending them another $20 for the 2nd race will solve their financial problems. The 857 billion dollar stimulus wasn't enough, they tell us if we only borrow just a little more from the chinese, or our children, or print a little more money, or tax a few more rich people then the world would be right again. And as far as Warren goes, she is a sociopath...the evidence is clear that she can't help herself but to lie and exaggerate her life. How could anyone have faith that she will suddenly start telling the truth if elected to the Senate? Remember, those lies were all spun in a matter of months..how many would she pack into 6 years?

Kerry doesn't pay tax on his boat, how many homes, Pelosi, besides needing to be excommunicated, multi-million dollar house winery, Dirty Harry Reid lives in the Ritz, POTUS and Moooshel worth millions. And these people are buying it. Do their kids want to be saddled with thousands of dollars in public debt? Get real people.

Why all the personal attacks? Political policy & direction of the country worth intelligent discussion. Recipies, heritage vs. kings and queens and posing naked are the start of silly season. We could all keep that dialouge going forever. Character assasination can go both ways and gets us no where. Romney and Brown are not interested in growing the middle class and getting this country back on track. Bush and the Republicans created our econonmic problems. The lack of accountability is startling. The elitism lies within a political system that reduces regulation and then sets up corporate welfare while middle class Americans are squeezed. Stop the name calling and vote your issues with intellectual honesty and understanding. Can we agree that both candidates are personally qualified to represent us -- politics are not a popularity contest.

See what I mean, they lie, lie, lie and after awhile you believe it. They don't believe in America. Facts are stubborn things, look how much the deficit has done up on 3 years, more than double in Bush's 8. Record high food stamps, 85,000 added to SSDI just last month. Yes, NYC is doing well, thank you Rudy Guiliani. I am not sure what any of you mean by accusing others of insults. A few of you here referred to some of us as "selfish old codgers", that whe should"switch to decaf", etc. And no, I don't agree that both are qualified to be US Senator. Brown has shown that he is qualified. He has been rated as one of the hardest working senators in the chamber. He has introduced more bills than most of the senior members and his attendance record is amongst the highest. Ms Warren has proven to be untruthful, a plagiariser, an intellectual thief, and a dubious "box checker" . Look, here is the thing. You folks on the left are stuck with her. I get that. But she will at least vote the way the Democratic leadership tells her to which fits into what you feel is best for your values. But you have to accept the obvious, that because of her serious flaws as a candidate and a person, for as long as she represents your side, Ms Warren and those that support her, will have to suffer through my side pointing out those flaws because they are inescapable. I know you all know that, even if it is hard to admit. President Nixon was an albatross around the necks of conservatives for many, many years, but the difference was he didn't become so until about the 6th year of his Presidency. Ms Warren's troubled character is know by all of us before she has been given the chance to join the government. Hopefully she won't be given that chance.

Senator Brown has introduced and sponsored 39 pieces of legislation. It was too extensive to list here (I tried). Not that those of you voting for the fake Indian will bother to look at it, but here is the link nonetheless http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/browse?sponsor=412384
He sponsored the bill to bar Congress from trading on insider knowledge which is still stuck in committee because of Reid's opposition. He also sponsored S.Res. 110: A resolution to require that all legislative matters be available and fully scored by CBO 48 hours before consideration by any subcommittee or committee of the Senate or on the floor of the Senate. That bill has not been passed because it would require Democrats to consider math before passing a bill, a premise that is alien to them. He also sponsored the "Stolen Valor Act" ...still pending and subject to failure particularly if Warren wins because she might worry about being the test case.

I didn't want to acknowledge your joke until I positive that there was no such recognized syndrome, at least by the ASP. Guiliani was a great mayor........Detroit, Newark, and Lawrence Ma could use a guy like him. Visiting NYC in 1988, and then in 1998...the difference was stark. People were happy, felt safe, and the city was fiscally sane and vibrant. Rahm Emmanuel would do well to consult with Rudy, as Chicago is becoming a cesspool of unfettered violence.

I spentv30 years in Ct where our Governor, and several mayors were shipped off to various jails. The former republican mayor of Waterbury ,who was raised in Venezuala, remains in prison. The former mayor of Bridgeport is now devoted to

Here is your quote Lexi, "Ms. Warren also preyed on people who could not afford their homes and foreclosed on them and sold them at a profit for herself. "
I could only access a small piece of the Herald's relating to this and it does not state that she foe preyed on people or that she, herself, closed on them. She bought foreclosed homes and turned them around for a profit. She wasn't preying on the people who lost their homes and she never was part of a bank decision to foreclose on them.
Also she didn't take away anyone's job.

Bridget, Harvard has a stake in this matter. They continued to report to the Federal Government Ms Warren as being a minority faculty member. Harvard has refused to release her job application and they certainly won't release the recommendations of the search and hiring committees. But what is your point anyway, that just because Harvard MAY not have intially consider her mendacious claim of Native American Heritage in hiring her, that makes it all ok? While us, the hoi poloi, have no way to ascertain whether Harvard employed her on the basis of her false claim, it is indisputable that they certainly used her phony status in reporting minority representation on the faculty to the government, right? Bridget, it would be best to just stick with your assertion that Ms Warren better represents your values than Scott Brown does and will vote in a way you favor. But you are descending into the muck with Ms Warren when you try to defend her lack of character. Just say "Yes, she is a filthy liar, she has always been a liar, but she will vote they way I prefer so that is why I will vote for her". We understand that you folks are stuck with her. Khazei would have been a better candidate, but it is too late now. Those of us that come from my vantage point would understand that, but you can't possibly think you are going to persuade anyone that Warren possesses a character that exceeds that of Senator Brown, it is impossible after her numerous public displays of untruthfulness.

Man you are grouchy today. Did you try that decaf?
Warren flipped houses in the early 1990's , actually 19 years ago when the banks were our friends and good buddies. I wish I had been as wise as Warren to get into the buty low sell higher mode. It was all about market forces, and dynamics. Very traditionally American. Actually very traditionally republican, and a well respected practice.
I a m sure we do all rember the banks going rogue in 2008 . Getting caught up in their questionalble accounting scams and raiding our pension funds by the market devaluation. Their profit margins did not reflect their bad business practices in the long run. And in the year 2012, the can truly be called predators as they have devasted retirement plans , while they ate first, leaving the rest of us scratching our skulls. Wanting to know what happened
Elizabeth Warren missed that big feast by 15 years. If our mother brother or sister had been as quick in their feet to participate in the fix up and flip wave of the early 90's we would all be giving them the high five.
Let's once again keep the facts straight here. The banking industry she is knocking has become Edward Hyde

Brian,
The decaf has helped, except I can't seem to rub the sand out of my eyes. Buying foreclosed properties is a good thing. It props up neighborhoods, strenghthens values, etc. It is just that Ms Warren rails against others flipping mortgages and properties. I don't think there is anything wrong with what she did, it just that she would find something wrong with it if I did it. First the banks were "red-lining", so the government decides to intervene in the market to force lenders to lend to people who were clearly credit risks. Then when housing collapsed, it was no longer red-lining that was the problem, it then became predatory lending. The same cabal of leftist do-gooders who complained that banks weren't loaning money to poor people were the same people who complained that banks lent money to poor people.
And for all you people out there who still think the problem was that banks weren't regulated enough, you have it all backwards. It was because the banks were over regulated...forced by the government to offer risky loans, that the housing bubble occured. Remember over-regulation caused the meltdown, not lack of regulation.

All good points, but in the final analysis, it is a matter of opinion. I may be wrong, but I thuoght that Clinton(another EPS victim) had deregulated the banking industry to allow them to , in effect , have greater latitude to make the risky loans in the 90's . But I am old and forgetful

Clinton & Congress removed Glass/Steigal restrictions that prevented banks from becoming investment firms. The Community Reinvestment Act was strengthened by the gov backing mortgages (Fannie and Freddie) that banks would have normally considered risky (20% deposit not needed, credit checks not needed, etc). The banks were still not comfortable with such loans on their books, despite gov guarantees, so they packaged them, along with other investment products, as mortgage back securities, that they let loose in the market because they were now allowed to operate as investment firms. As far as the banks were concerned, it turned out they got away with it because the government did back up the risky loans as promised, with a taxpayer bailout. Although most of the blame can be laid on the head of President Carter in the first instance, and then Frank and Dodd, the fact is that President Bush enjoyed touting that home ownership expanded quicker during his administration than it ever had in the past. So Bush carries a portion of the blame (that is my gift to the liberals reading these posts) I guess it was only the Libertarians who can say truthfully that they warned against intervening in the market. It pains me to admit it, but Ron Paul had been right about the pending housing bubble when he first started warning about it in the mid-eighties. We over-regulated the banks, we told them how to loan money and to whom, and then we told them we would back the risk.

Welllllllllll, suppression of free speech is really a dictatorial fascist approach....sort of Bush era reaction to ugly news. Unless the babble you are hoping to quell is sort of the Glen Beck Rushbo version of their distorted news reporting.......then it is a very humane response...for the rest of us easily led sheep

Why do you feel the need to criticize this young woman for simply writing an informative and interesting letter on something she strongly believes in. As another young adult interested and involved in politics if this ever happened to me I would be incredibly disappointed that no one really supported their claim with evidence. Rather than condemning her for speaking her mind you should be happy that a young adult is taking an initiative to get involved in the politics of this all so incredible country. Instead of supporting her or simply showing her articles that she should read to inform her more on the subject, you attack her mercilessly. You should have been an adult and been polite about it. Now I understand some people have been polite but to those who haven't been you should be ashamed and realize you're the reason many kids are becoming turned off to politics. Please rethink the way you have acted and maybe the next young adult will not be as bombarded with insults as this intellectual young woman has been. Thank you for time and please less rude.

Taking into an account that most of impolite posts had been from the people who DID agree with her and that very few of those disagreeing with her criticized her personally, you complaint seems to be off mark.

There were many of this extended chat who supported her and gave her credit for stating her beliefs. The anger level however was a hiip shot from a scatter gun. As much as we disagree with them , they are afforded their moments in the sun. The sarcasm, and bluster were a bit overdone

Professor Elizabeth Warren started her campaign last year arriving by limo at the Broadway T stop and said she'll be actively courting the "hick" vote in Boston. Elizabeth has a net worth of almost 8 million dollars and a large stock profile. She associates herself with the general public with her Indian background. At several news events Gov. Patrick had to help her answer questions. The professor has taken as long as three months to answer questions from the news media. -NO vote for me.

Hello Katie,
You are overlooking KEY FACTS. They can be stubborn things.
Life is tough; - always has been. I hope your parents taught you to weigh, evaluate, and choose wisely. What you do with life’s opportunities and risks is YOUR business, not ours - and NOT the government's. It is NOT the job of the government to guarantee you a risk-free/debt-free soft landing.
If school will leave you with unacceptable debt, - re-evaluate.
Your 'rights' as a woman should be no different than ANY other person here. If you want a baby-free active sex life - pay the price. There are options.
BUT, if you want to kill an unborn child - don’t expect US to pay for it. Be PREPARED to live with a lifetime of guilt.
Mz. Warren is a horrible candidate - like so many Mass Democrats over the years. She lied for over 20 years about being a Cherokee, - JUST added the Delaware to the mix.
For 20 years there have been claims of fudged 'facts' in the book she wrote with Teresa A. Sullivan. Sullivan JUST RESIGNED as Prez of UnivVA.
Warren railed against Wall Street banks foreclosing homes, - as she and her family were flipping foreclosed homes. That's called hypocrisy! Do you want ANOTHER Mass hypocrite like Ted Kennedy in the Senate?
She and hubby make over $550. Hardly middle class!
Katie, it’s time to re-evaluate. Character, reputation, and credentials DO matter. Warren’s are all flawed at best, some totally phony.

Save your testosterone for another target. Your lecture to Katie is very stale as it tries to revive issues that were hotly discussed last week. Yawn! Are you just emerging from a coma?

Agreed. Let's turn the page and focus on more current exciting stuff, like 41 condos on the highest point in town, and stop calling the old building the middle school. It was Swampscott High! Elizabeth Warren may be in favor of the low income housing units proposed for that development . Her spokesperson has not yet commented.

She does not have any say on this issue: AFAIK, she is not Swampcostt citizen and she is NOT (at least so far) our senator. If she is so anxious to do something ..er.. "for the poor", she can donate them her own mansion.
Why this (or any other expensive) slot has to be selected for low income units is

BC,
For the sake of argument. What if an individual bought the "old high school" parcel and put forth plans to build a 15, 000 square foot mansion, with a steeple as high as the current building, an outdoor swimming pool and a garage facility capable of storing 15 vintage autos. I'll bet the neighbors would be ticked at that also. Not in keeping with character of the neighborhood, etc. The Board of Selectmen spec'd out this RFP with plenty of opportunity for public input.
Move forward, this property will be developed, and Groom has put forth a great looking concept.

The law requires certain review processes. The proposed development must conform to the rules as interpreted by the boards who are considering the proposal . Not sure how flexible the laws allow them to be. Should be a lot of sturm und drank on the horizon
Thanks for moving us forward with this topic

This is approximately my extend of the German (I also know "dreck" and "schweinhund" but that's pretty much it) so it is not like I'm much better. :-)
You are most probably right about the whole brouhaha with this condo and it seems that the neighbors want some goodies from a constructor (dealing with the water issue, etc.) while being unwilling to provide him with enough profit margin to deliver these goodies.
Some of the fears related to condos that I read so far are seemingly based on a total ignorance of the issue. OTOH, if this will be an "affordable housing" project, most of the fears expressed may prove to be on optimistic side.
Have a good week
