Over all of his notes on the locker room white board dissecting the Danvers Falcons’ gameplan, Coach Justin Fucile had one message, written in clear, black ink, for his team before Swampscott’s highly anticipated matchup against the #4 team in the state: “They are undefeated until 8:30 tonight because of this team.”

However, Coach Fucile was wrong on two counts. Not only did the game end at 8:46, but the Falcons held Swampscott to a mere 31 points and took an easy victory over the Big Blue to improve to 14-0 on the year.

Thanks to two first-half runs, Danvers put the game away early. Swampscott’s closest moment to victory was when Steven Bowers scored the first points of the day for the Big Blue, tying the game at 2 with 6:20 in the first. The next basket for the Blue would come with 1:25 remaining in the first, when Steven Scaglione hit a three-pointer to make it 18-5, Danvers. The Falcons scored 16 points between the two Swampscott field goals.

Two Dan Trentsch free throws brought the Big Blue within 16 points with 14 seconds remaining in the first quarter. However, Swampscott wouldn’t score for another seven minutes, allowing Danvers to go on a 21-0 run until the 1:38 mark in the second, when Stephen Bowers halted the scoring streak with a jumpshot.

At halftime, the Falcons held a 46-11 lead. Dan Connors scored 16 points in the first half for Danvers, while Kieran Beck added seven.

The Falcons finished the second half strong, and did not give Swampscott any opportunity to recover.  The Big Blue only scored 20 points in the second half, while Danvers added 33 points to its already-impressive point total. For Swampscott, resistance was futile.

Steven Scaglione was the leading scorer for Swampscott with eight points, while Connors finished with 21 points for Danvers.

Swampscott, who became ineligible for postseason play with its loss last Friday against Winthrop, have three games remaining this season. The Big Blue travel to Gloucester on Friday, and finish the year next week with two home games against rivals Saugus and Marblehead.
