A motorist was transported to the hospital after a motor vehicle accident on Paradise Road about 2:30 p.m. today, Thursday.

Swampscott firefighters responded to the vicinity of Eastern Bank, at 405 Paradise Road. The operator was placed on a backboard and in an ambulance and transported to Salem Hospital, said Swampscott fire Lt. Sheila Scranton.

The vehicle was disabled and towed from the scene.

Initial police scanner reports said the incident may have been the result of a hit-and-run accident.
